Lutheran Advocates for Safe Families (LASF), an initiative of the Lutheran Community Foundation, aims to end an enduring epidemic of domestic violence with resources, education and awareness.
What is unusual, perhaps, is not that it exists at all—there are, in fact, many groups working to end violence in the home. What’s different are the people at the table—representatives from Lutheran social ministeries, Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and the Lutheran Community Foundation. It’s a wide base of support determined to have a powerful effect, starting at a location that has been mostly silent on the issue: the church.
This kind of collaboration is critical for work within congregations, research in the seminary, broad local education and early intervention. The gathering represents a shared commitment to change a reality for women and children that hasn’t changed nearly fast enough.
